Aosta Valley
The Aosta Valley (Italian: Val d’Aosta, French Vallée d’Aoste) is a bilingual region located in Northern Italy and a famous winter holidays destination; who has never heard of Courmayeur, Champoluc, Cogne, Châtillon? To say nothing of the Gran Paradiso National Park (Italian: Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso, French: Parc National du Grand Paradis), where it’s possible to see many rare flowers and animals: the glacier buttercup, the aconite, the martagon. Some animal species living here are: the ibex, which is the National Park symbol, the Eurasian lynx, the rock ptarmigan, the bearded vulture. The city of Aosta (French: Aoste) is the third most important city for the number of Roman finds after Rome and Pompeii. Some example are: the Arch of Augustus, the Roman theater, the Roman gates. At the end of January, the important Sant’Orso handcraft fairy (Italian: fiera di Sant’Orso, French: foire de Saint- Ours) takes place in Aosta.
